8. In verse 24 we learn that Cornelius was waiting for Peter and once he arrived, he called all his friends and relatives together to hear the message Peter had. What message did Peter give (verses 36-43)?

9. Read verses 44-48. What happens as a result of Peter’s message? Cornelius was a very devout, God-fearing man even though he was not a Jew. Peter did not go to Cornelius’ house to convince him to become a Jew. Rather, according to this passage, what was the one thing Cornelius was missing in order to be saved? There are many devout, God-fearing Muslims today (refer back to Appendix 1). What is the one thing they are missing to attain salvation?

10. Read Jeremiah 29:13 and Matthew 7:7-8. Do you think Cornelius was earnestly seeking God? According to these verses, what does God promise to those who seek him? What about the Muslims who are earnestly seeking God (see Appendix 2: Muslim Seekers)?

11. What are all the actions God took to bring Cornelius to a saving knowledge of Christ?

12. Read Acts 10:45, 11:15-17, and 15:8-11. What did Peter and the other believers learn about salvation through Jesus Christ for the non-Jew? What can we learn from this story concerning salvation for the Muslim?


God is actively working to bring Muslims to himself. So many Muslims show by their actions—loving God and others—that they are close to God (read Acts 17:27). They only lack in knowing Jesus as their Savior. Just as with Cornelius, God is often using dreams and visions to open the eyes of devout Muslims to who Jesus Christ is. He is even calling Muslim extremists to himself. He shows no partiality and does not withhold his love from anyone. For more on this topic, check out “For Further Ponderings—His by Another Name.”

“Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps” Psalm 85:9-13.

There are so many Muslims who already fear God—his salvation is so near to them! The way is prepared for his steps. More and more Muslims are turning to Christ. Let’s join up with God in what he is doing among Muslims all over the world! Let’s nurture the same love and heart for the lost that our Savior has.
